  • Transportation

    Transportation

    PARKING AND TRAFFIC

Click to see the FLORENCE HALLOCK SCHOOL TRAFFIC APP

Streets around our school are often very congested during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up. To help keep our students safe, we need you to do your part by slowing down and following traffic safety laws.

    30 km/h school zones

Starting September 2, 2015 a lower speed limit in school zones came into effect in Edmonton. You must slow down to 30km/h around schools between 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. where signs are present.

Speed limits will be strictly enforced by both the Edmonton Police Service and the City of Edmonton’s Office of Traffic Safety during posted hours.

    General safety reminders

    • Remain courteous and patient
    • Drive slowly and watch for students crossing the road
    • Abide all traffic signs and laws
    • Use designated crosswalks
    • Respect school staff and volunteers assisting with drop-off and pick-up
    • Park further away from the school and walk the rest of the way
    • Use Edmonton Transit or other ways to get to school (walk, ride a bike or roll!)

For information about getting to school, visit epsb.ca/schools/gettoschool.

    BUS SERVICE

Edmonton Public Schools provides yellow bus service to a student’s designated school if they are:

    • in Kindergarten to Grade 6 and live at least one kilometre away, or
    • in Grades 7 to 12 and live at least two kilometres away and Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) is not available.

View the detailed map on any school page for the yellow bus service area, or contact the school.

Edmonton Transit System (ETS) is the preferred way for junior high students to get to school.

    Applying for yellow bus service

Whether your child is new to yellow bus service or a current rider, you need to apply for yellow bus service each school year. If you have more than one child who needs yellow bus service, you will need to apply for each child.

The deadline to apply for yellow bus service is June 1, 2024 to make sure your child receives service on the first day of the 2024-2025 school. You can always apply for bus service throughout the year.

    To apply for service in:

    2024–25
Complete the 2024–25 yellow bus service application form if your child needs service starting in September 2024.

    2023–24
Complete the 2023–24 yellow bus service application form if your child needs service during the current school year.

If your child has been approved for yellow bus service, you’ll be notified in mid-August with the route number, stop locations, pick up and drop off times and bus company contact information.

    Bus passes

Students who receive bus service must buy a bus pass. Yellow bus, and subsidized ETS passes, can be purchased at your child’s school each month.  If you wish to purchase an ETS bus, please contact the school so we can put the fee on your child's SchoolZone.

First Riders Program (TBA for 2024)

All K–6 students taking the bus for the first time are invited to the Edmonton Expo Centre on TBA for the 15th annual First Riders event. This free event is a unique hands-on opportunity for you and your child to get familiar with riding the bus before the school year begins. Grade 7 students new to Edmonton Transit Service (ETS) and families wanting a refresher are welcome too.  Afternoon sessions run every half-hour from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Evening sessions run every half-hour from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Please register by August 25 to save your spot.

    Ride times

Minimizing ride times for students is our highest priority. We’ll work to make sure yellow bus service is as efficient as possible and meets the District’s ride time standards. We’ll also continue our ongoing work with the City of Edmonton to discuss how to best provide efficient ETS service for district students.

For information about getting to school, visit epsb.ca/schools/gettoschool.
